Carol Has a New Book

Carol Jones has a new book with Bobbi Finley called Fresh Perspectives: Reinventing 18 Classic Quilts from the International Quilt Study Center & Museum

She showed several quilts from Fresh Perspectives at the April quilt show.

The book features contemporary interpretations of antique quilts from the Museum.

Lori's Summer Challenge

Think Winter!!!

Make a 24" or less size mini quilt before the next meeting.  Do not quilt it. Lori will do that for you for free.  Also, no need for batting or backing.

  Just bring it to the meeting.  The theme must be anything that reminds you of fall or winter ( or just COOLER weather!).

I will have them all quilted and ready for binding and bring them to the retreat in September.

 You must do the binding.

Consider using this mini quilt as your donation for the mini quilt auction at next year's quilt show!!  We'd love to get a jump start on collecting our beautiful artwork!!

Spencer Museum Show

The Ray of Hope: Aaron Douglas Inspired Quilts and Murals       Spencer Museum of Art in the Lobby Gallery  through September 16, 2012      In the spring term of 2012 Marla Jackson, a Lawrence, Kansas, quilt artist, worked with Liberty Memorial Central Middle School 8th graders, in Michel Loomis' English class, and Topeka area 4th graders to produce a number of painted and quilted works inspired by artist Aaron Douglas and the Harlem Renaissance. This exhibition features two large paintings, made by the 8th-graders, and 18 individual quilts made by the 4th-graders in Topeka on similar themes. The 4th-grade students are all from the Williams Science and Fine Art Magnet School in Topeka.   The project is sponsored by the National Park Service, the Brown v. Linda Frost is designing our Block of the Month and it looks to be a closeup view of the critters in her yard.

Suburban Wildlife's Block #1 for July is a skunk with a streak of lace. You should have received the pattern with your July newsletter.

Bring those black and white polecats to the July meeting.
