Quilt Show at the Merc

Georgann Eglinski and Barbara Brackman have an exhibit of small quilts in the dining room at the Community Mercantile grocery store at 9th & Iowa in Lawrence. It will be up through May.

The theme is Arts and Crafts designs based on the work of William Morris, Charle Rennie Mackintosh, Frank Lloyd Wright and others.

This is a great space for a small quilt show. The last show was by Kathy Suprenant. Check the dining room every month or two to see what's new.

QBC Aussie Quilts

The QBC group wins the prize for finishing their group project. We saw lots of examples of this particular pattern at the Quilt Show. They found it in an Australian magazine I think

They all decided to make the same pattern in different fabrics. Marie Meyen, at the top, picked Australian aboriginal prints. Did she make two?!!

Loaves & Fishes detail
Sara Chappell worked with her Kaffe Fasset stash (which kept increasing miraculously it seemed)

Kathie Baldwin still had some Patterns of Progress, 40s reproductions
for her Flowers in the Attic

It's a great pattern to show off a fabric collection---
would work great with 5" charm packs or 10" layer cakes.

Of course, there were a few who danced to their own drummers

There were more. I just didn't take enough notes.

Quilt Show Shots

Ferrol did a great job of decorating.
 Here's a 1930s Grandmother's Flower Garden behind a tea table.

And on the theme of small pieces:

Here's a detail of a 1930s postage stamp quilt.
An idea that inspired Joyce Colton to make a '30s style postage stamp out of new prints.

Noah's Ark

Noah's Ark by Terry Thompson
Terry made this quilt about 14 years ago for grand daughter Clare. She found a print with African animals and cut them out in pairs. The ark is based on the African Queen from the movie. Note thatched roof.

Round Robin

I'm showing my Round Robin from a winter Sew Whatever group project. The theme was animals. I appliqued and embroidered the center, Georgann appliqued the inner border and Janet P. pieced the outer.
Let's see if anyone else got theirs finished!

Old Blocks, New Quilt

Deb Rowden is finishing off this quilt this week. She had some pale, rather subdued 9-patch blocks from about 1940 and set them with an eye-catching strip sashing. Perfect for the show's theme of quilting over the generations.

Oldie but Goodie

I recently hung this wonderful old quilt in my bedroom. Kathe

Terry's New Pattern

Terry shows her Strawberry Sundae reproduction. She copied an antique quilt from about 1850 for a new pattern for her Peace Creek Patterns. Pam Mayfield appliqued and quilted the model for her.

Look for the pattern next month and look for the quilt at the quilt show.

Another Birds mini quilt

Another one for the mini quilt auction. It features a center made by Linda Frost (with birds!). Georgann Eglinski, the all-time queen of mini quilts, added the rest. Please note Georgann's beautiful matching sweater in the background (I didn't want to totally crop it out). isn't it wonderful!

Back to the Bird Theme

I was looking for a paisley project
and thought of a tiny piece Linda Frost had done.
Mine is now bound and ready for the quilt show.

Thanks for the idea, Linda.

Group Project: Sew Whatever

The small group the Sew Whatevers is meeting this weekend at the Lied Lodge in Nebraska City for a retreat. The group project is a Four-Patch based on this fabric from Kaffe Fassett. It's a little purpler than the photo and has yellows, carmel browns, salmons and turquoise in it.

Wendy's start for a strip set

Participants made four patches based on the color palette and exchanged them.

Sarah's start for an alternating block set
Everybody brought fabric and a plan to set them.

Georgann's start for a zig-zag strip set with added 9-patches

They are still up there sewing. I had to come home.

Sarah is filling in with dark purple x's

Let's hope to see some finished tops at the next show and tell at guild.
