Toothbrush Rugs

HI!
I promised I'd post a few notes from the toothbrush rug demos. The rug here is one I made last fall.
Toothbrush rugs are a great way to use up all kinds of fabrics. You can use nice quilt leftovers but old shirts and pants with spots and tears go well in these too, as do old sheet, stained tablecloths - you get the picture? They all look great in a rug.

If you want to learn more about these rugs, just google toothbrush rugs. You'll find instructions, videos and products that help make these rugs. Bring your rugs to upcoming quilt meetings so we can all admire them!

Quilt Market in Houston

Quilt Market was in Houston Texas last week.
This trade show for quilt shop owners features booths
by fabric companies, publishers, notions vendors, etc.

The Merchant's House by Ruth Powers

They also have quilt exhibits on a variety of themes.
Ruth Powers had a quilt in a show called Tactile Architecture

And Linda Everhard had a booth for her pattern company, which is called "Among Friends."
She's all set up here on the morning of the first day.

Trees

Above, two from the Miniquilt auction at the quilt show last spring.

The Sewhatevers minigroup has made a Christmas quilt to donate for the Festival of Trees that benefits the Shelter. The auction is in November.
Have any other groups made quilts to donate to this event at Liberty Hall in Lawrence?
The major focus is decorated trees but Christmas-themed quilts sell well too.

Deb's Quilts

Barkley's Birds 2005

Here's a short retrospective of Deb Rowden's quilts:

Ocean Waves

She's always loved small pieces and she often looks to vintage quilts for inspiration.

Postage Stamp

In the past few years she's been doing less planning and more impulse piecing.

The yellow nine-patches with the blue centers are vintage blocks from about 1950.
She pieced the setting strips.

She collects impulsive quilts and potholders with faces on them.
Here's a combination of both influences.
She donated this to the Lawrence Humane Society auction last month.
